Trustees of the popular tourist attraction have announced that not only will the Saffron Walden Town Band be performing on the day, but that Brian and Rita Wells from the Epping Forest Hawk & Owl Sanctuary will be taking along some of their beautiful birds for visitors to admire.

The band will play two sets, at 2.15pm and 3.15pm, which will include a variety of different pieces; shows, songs, musicals, pop etc. perfect light easy listening to compliment an afternoon in the gardens.

The birds will be on display for most of the afternoon and visitors will be able to have handling sessions for a donation of £3 towards the important rescue and rehabilitation work done at the sanctuary.

Trustee Catherine Dean said: “This will be the third year that we have had the band here and we all find their performances hugely entertaining; visitors are encouraged to bring a blanket and find a spot to enjoy not only the music but also our lovely homemade refreshments.

“We are also delighted that Brian and Rita are bringing their wonderful birds to the gardens and feel sure that our visitors will enjoy seeing them in these beautiful surroundings.”

The gardens are open from 11.30am to 5pm (last admission at 4pm) with tickets costing £3.50 for adults and children entering free. Annual season tickets are also available at the open day as well as “Tea for Two” gift vouchers which are perfect for introducing friends to the delights of a visit to the Gardens.

Hot food will be on sale at lunch time including homemade soup, bacon rolls and sausage baps; hot and cold drinks and homemade cakes will be available until 4.30pm. There will be an assortment of children’s craft and nature activities available all afternoon and guided tours at 1pm and 3pm.

Anyone interested in joining the volunteer team for these and subsequent open days, in helping with regular Monday, Thursday or Saturday gardening sessions or finding out other ways to get involved will be most welcome.
