Panto season is upon us – oh yes it is – and here’s your festive show round-up

It’s the season of pantomimes and Christmas plays - it’s a showcase of all the other forms of performance, song, dance, acrobatics, slapstick and wonderfully performed, precision, over acting. Here’s our pick of the shows.

Aladdin presented by Scene II Theatre School is at Dunmow Arts Centre in Haslers Lane on December 5 at 6pm and December 9 at noon and 3pm. Tickets, £10 from www.artscentretickets.com

Rapunzel presented by the Dancing Brick Theatre Company at Cambridge Junction from December 5-31 suitable for ages 5+ shows at various times. Show lasts an hour 45 minutes including interval. Jack and the Beanstalk at Cambridge Arts Theatre November 30-January 7, starring Liza Goddard, Tony Christie and Coronation Street’s Stephen Beckett. Shows mornings, afternoons and evenings on various days. Dick Whittingdon at Linton Village College. The show’s writer, Lorenzo Zambrana aged 17, plays Sarah the Cook and his real-life mum, Tracey, plays Sarah’s son Idle Jack, so mother and son swap roles. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is presented by Phoenix Theatre Arts at the Rhodes Arts Complex, Bishop’s Stortford from December 9 to January 6. Shows mostly 1pm and 5pm but also 11am and 3pm on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve and 2pm on New Year’s Day. Tickets on Saturday December 9 are £17 all seats. Otherwise range from £17 to £22 or family £66-£86 depending on the day. A Christmas Carol, presented by the European Arts Company at the Mumford Theatre (at Anglian Ruskin University, Cambridge) on Tuesday, December 12 at 7.30pm. and Chelmsford Civic Theatre’s Cramphorn Studio on Friday, December 15 at 8pm. Actor John O’Connor recreates how Charles Dickens toured theatres telling his story. Suitable for ages 10 upwards.
