Dad’s Army Radio Hour, at Chelmsford Civic Theatre on Wednesday, November 28, has two actors playing 25 characters.

The play is based on scripts from the television sitcom about the Home Guard in the Second World War, by Jimmy Perry and David Croft and performed by Edinburgh Fringe Festival Award winner David Benson and Jack Lane.

The show celebrates 50 years of the show which first aired in July 1968. The sitcom, which is still being shown on television to this day, though most of the cast have since died, won Best One-Liner accolade in an poll of comedians.

The two-hander stage show was called “Pretty much a perfect feat of mimicry” by The Times.

The Radio Times said: “Two men, two mikes and loads of laughs”. And the reviewer for The Telegraph said: “Benson and Lane carry it all off beautifully.”
