Badly Drawn Boy

MERCURY Music Prize winner Badly Drawn Boy will be special guest at a charity gig in memory of an 11-year-old boy.

The singer-songwriter– real name Damon Gough – is to perform an acoustic set at Bolford Street Hall, Thaxted, on Saturday April 20 as a tribute to Saffron Walden County High student, Ethan Linwood, who died in a car crash last year.

Badly Drawn Boy has released seven studio albums and also produced the score to the film adaptation of Nick Hornby’s novel About a Boy, starring Hugh Grant.

His debut album The Hour of Bewilderbeast won the Mercury Music Prize in 2000.

Ethan’s dad, Bob, will also be appearing on stage to showcase his drumming skills, while the band QED will rattle through a repertoire of classic hits from the past four decades. Support act is local girl Sharon Collins. It will not be the first time Bob also plays drums for the Blues Brothers Revue Band, a regular act at Saffron Walden Carnival for the last 20 years. Money raised from the evening will be donated to the Ethan Rees Linwood Memorial Fund to help young people in the community.

The event starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are £10. A licensed bar and hot snacks will also be available.
