Saffron Players are presenting Pinocchio, the pantomime in the Town Hall this weekend and next weekend...and there are still tickets available for some performances.
Written and directed by Mary Curtis, the panto is based on the 19th century story by Italian author Carlo Collodi.
Lonely woodcarver Geppetto (played by Peter Garnham) carves a new puppet and wishes it were a real boy. The Blue Fairy (Rachel Crane) hears his wish and tells Pinocchio (14-year-old Florence Russell) that to become a real boy he will have to be honest and learn to choose between right and wrong.
Pinocchio is led astray by a variety of shady characters, is captured by the evil Stromboli (Robert Pringle), escapes and befriends Lampwick (played by Toby Jones) – who also leads him astray.
Pinocchio’s conscience, Jiminy Cricket (Bernie Harris) finds it hard to keep him out of harm’s way... but you’ll have to go to the panto to find out if there is a happy ending!
The show promises the usual mix of songs and dances, awful jokes, audience participation and lots of fun for all ages.
Tickets are on sale in the Tourist Information Centre and are priced at £6, or £5 for party bookings. There is also a first night offer of £5 per ticket.
Performances are today (Jan 13) at 7.30pm, Saturday (Jan 14) at 2.30pm and 6.30pm, Sunday (Jan 15) at 2.30pm, and again next weekend on Friday, January 20, at 7.30pm and Saturday, January 21, at 2.30pm and 6.30pm.
