Beer festivals take place across Essex


The only wine is Essex.

With CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) has chosen the county for their festivals this year. Dedham Vale Vineyard in Colchester (, has a countryside route you can bike through. At their festival August 25-27, there will be wine, cider, beer, food, live music, and camping.

New Hall Vineyard in Purleigh, Chelmsford, one of the oldest and first vineyards in the UK to grow the Bacchus grape, (See: wines, hold their annual English Wine Festival and fun day on September 3 and 4. This has winery and vineyard tours, crafts and food stalls, plus entertainment and children’s activities.

East Anglian Railway Museum at Chappel near Colchester ( has been home to the CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) festivals for over 30 years. The 31st takes place from Septmber 5-9. The Greater Anglia Sudbury Line (from Marks Tey) goes directly to Chappel Station.

Billericay Brewery (, has tours and tastings every second and last Sunday in the month at 2pm. You can even be a Brewer for the Day and return three weeks later to collect your pint.
