FEBRUARY Half Term (February 11-19) looms large on the horizon, but never fear – at the Imperial War Museum (IWM) Duxford there are some fantastic activities to keep the whole family entertained, whatever the weather.
This half term visitors will have the opportunity to be a history detective and run their own museum.
Experience some of the exciting challenges that the museum’s experts encounter every day in AirSpace, underneath the iconic Concorde.
Using all your senses, and an enquiring mind, find out more about historical objects, their uses and significance.
Dare to reach inside the mystery box and discover what’s within using only your sense of touch.
Then take a look at a range of unusual historical items. Using only 20 questions, test your family’s knowledge about the item. What is it? Who would have used it and when? What was it used for?
Then you’ll be looking at various items from different military services – can you match up which items would have been used in the RAF, the Army and the Royal Navy?
When you’ve had a go at assessing historical objects, it’s time to make your own display. Use your imagination to make your own creation or be inspired by one of the imaginative display titles to bring your exhibition to life. Produce badges and posters to publicise your exhibition.
There’ll be lots of weird and wonderful mystery objects that you can see and find out more about – then, history hunters, seek out the exhibition in the museum that relates to that object.
You’ll be given your own History Detectives passport that will be stamped every time you succeed at a challenge.
The events run from February 11-19 between 11am and 3pm. For information visit iwm.org.uk
