The pictures on show range from the Queen in 1957, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Marc Bolan, two weeks before his death in 1977, Shirley Bassy, Rod Stewart and many more, some of which have never been exhibited before.

Bill began his career in 1957, working as a photographers assistant, to a firm of photographers in Fleet Street. At 17, he began taking photographs for the covers of women’s magazines.

After a major printing strike in 1959 Bill went freelance, and began working for TV companies. He was commissioned to work on the very first publicity pictures for Coronation Street, in Manchester, and was soon in demand. That led him to work on the hugely popular weekly pop show, Ready Steady Go! giving him access to all the biggest pop stars of the day.

In 1977, during the Queen’s Silver Jubilee year, Bill was invited to Buckingham Palace to photograph Her Majesty and all her Commonwealth ministers.

During the years that followed, Bill’s pictures have been published in magazines around the world. His photographs have been hung at The World Press photos in the Hague and recently at the National Portrait Gallery, London.

All photographs are limited editions, signed by Bill and available to purchase. It is hoped the sale of photographs will raise funds for The Macmillan Cancer Support.
