Clive Wakeford, an artist with a broad range of artistic talents, from environmental artworks to installations, will bring his creativity to the ERO reception throughout January and February.

Wakeford’s underlying belief is that the arts are a critical foundation to the wellbeing of both the individual and society as a whole. His current work focuses around his interest in trees.

He has created a number of public installations in locations such as parks, farms, gardens, offices and libraries. One of his most recent works includes A120 Ghost Tree – a 50ft high tree painted white, alongside the A120.

The ERO is based in Chelmsford and cares for the written, oral and visual heritage of Essex, ensuring that it remains available to both present and future generations.

Essex county councillor Jeremy Lucas, cabinet member for Environment and Culture, said: “This is an exciting project which enables emerging artists to reveal their passion and development as their works go on display in the county.

“With such a passion for public art, Clive Wakeford is an artist who is sure to bring an installation that is unique yet fitting to the Essex Record Office. It is great to see the works of our residents and recognise the artistic talent Essex has to offer.”

Wakeford said: “This project is remarkable, it allows for artists like me who live and work in Essex to exhibit our work to the public for free.

“My art practice is driven by my response to personal experiences. What better location for my work to be exhibited than the ERO, where thousands of Essex memories can be discovered.”
