WaldenTri star Charlie Passfield has qualified for the World Duathlon Championship at the first attempt.

Passfield ventured to Oulton Park motor racing track on March 14 to compete in his first qualifying race.

In difficult blustery conditions he took on the sprint duathlon, consisting of two runs of 5km split by a cycle of 20km, against 310 competitors of all ages.

Although still only a junior, Passfield stormed the first run, entering transition 29th position overall. After a blistering bike leg, he was still on the pace until suffering a severe bout of cramp, costing some precious seconds. He then gritted his teeth to run the last leg in pain throughout, hobbling over the line in fourth position in the 17-18 age group.

He will compete in the World Championship on June 1 at Pontevedra, Spain.
