Tag rugby: Free taster sessions for youngsters at Saffron Walden Rugby Club

07:24 15 January 2014

Two free taster tag rugby sessions are being offered in a recruitment drive for budding players.

Saffron Walden Rugby Club is hosting the fun sessions, open to boys and girls, for the U6/U7 squad. It is also offering free membership until the end of the season for those interested in joining.

Ben Lancaster, under-7 coach, the youth and mini sections are the “building blocks for the club’s future”, adding: “Tag rugby for the under 6 and 7 age group is a great introduction to the sport as it promotes key skills such as movement, passing, spatial awareness and team play while keeping the children in a safe and supportive environment, not forgetting the most important aspect of all – fun.

“The boys and girls at Saffron Walden rugby club are developing every time they play and becoming part of a wonderful community that they will be able to enjoy into later life.

“No experience is needed, all of our players are new to the game and we strive to build the skills and fitness for the game through play and fun exercises, whilst focusing on key aspects of the game such as teamwork, fair play and an understanding of the rules of the game.”

Training is on Sunday mornings, with the two tasters on January 19 and 26, from 10-11am at the club’s Springate groun on Chickney Road, Henham.
