Two Saffron Walden schools will go on to represent Uttlesford at the county championships after a very competitive first district swimming final.
The Uttlesford School Sport Partnership event, held at Great Dunmow leisure centre pool, was of a high level. Each school had to enter teams for individual strokes, medley relay, freestyle relay and champion boy and girls’ race.
Nineteen schools from across the district had taken part in the heats, with eight going through to the finals – Great Dunmow, Katherine Semar Junior, RA Butler, Ashdon, Great Easton, Howe Green, St Thomas More and Dame Bradbury’s.
St Thomas More finished first in the Year 3/4 competition with 81 points, ahead of Great Easton in second (71) and Great Dunmow Primary in third (66).
In the Year 5/6 competition, Katherine Semar came out on top with 146 points. RA Butler Academy (137) were second and St Thomas More third (120).
Jackie Coleman, the school games organiser, said: “It was great to see so many children in Uttlesford having this opportunity to compete through the school games programme.
“There has been an increased entry of schools competing in this event this year, and I hope more schools are able to take part next year through the sport premium monies ringfenced for sport in primary schools.”
St Thomas More and Katherine Semar will know go through and represent Uttlesford in the Essex games in July.
