SAFFRON Walden Town Reserves put up a battling display to gain a hard earned 1-1 draw with Ipswich Wanderers Res in an evenly-contested match at Catons Lane.

Peter Davies gave the Bloods the lead on 23 minutes when his snap-shot from the edge of the box took a deflection and found its way into the net.

Wanderers’ equaliser came in the 58th minute via a stunning volley from Thomas Thrussell.

Both sides had chances to win but the draw was the fair result.

• SAFFRON Walden Town’s first team return to action on Saturday and host Long Melford at Catons Lane, kick off 3pm.

RADWINTER FC had to settle for a share of the points in a tenacious game with Sawston Athletic.

Sawston took the lead after five minute but managed to get a well-worked equaliser from the in-form Will Rolls.

Sawston re-took the lead but Corey Gray’s free kick saw Radwinter back on level terms. The game ended 2-2.

MATT Hall was the star of the show, scoring five goals as Saffron Crocus ran out 11-0 winners over Bottisham & Lode.

They were ahead within 10 minutes after a deep cross was superbly volleyed home by Hall from just inside the penalty area. Hall then turned provider, crossing from the right for Daniel Walker to coolly finish. Two more goals for Hall and one directly from a corner from Ross Millard meant Crocus were comfortably ahead at half time.

Crocus still had goals in them and went further ahead when Walker finished off a fine team move. Hall (2), Adam Daniels, a Millard penalty and one for Ricky Heickmann rounded off the victory,

Crocus go up against rivals Saffron Dynamos on Saturday in a fixture to be played at Ickleton recreation ground.

SAFFRON Rangers retained their second place in NMC 3A after a 3-1 win at new boys Eynesbury Rovers.

From the Kick off Eynesbury put Rangers under pressure and a defensive slip in the 24th minute gifted them a deserved lead.

Rangers gradually played their way back into the game and pulled level just before the break as Brooks headed home from close range.

The second half was a different story as Rangers took control. Ojumu hit the crossbar three times before Rangers produced the goal of the season, a team move ending with Phil Dillon powering a header into the top corner.

Ridgewell completed the scoring with a well taken header in the 78 minute.

Rangers face Comberton United Res at Linton on Saturday, kick off 2pm.

AN understrength Stansted side still managed to take the points after a 301 victory at Eton Manor.

The Airportmen took the lead on 20 minutes when Jeff Williams coolly slotted the ball home after a good through ball by captain Andy Reed.

The second came on the hour mark when 17-year-old Billy Turner controlled, swivelled and smashed the ball into the net.

Ryan Barker added a third soon after before Manor grabbed a late consolation.
