Saffron Strider Fiona Halls picked up a prize at Sunday’s Benfleet 15.

She was one of two members of the Saffron Walden running club to take part in the 15 mile race, and finished as the third female over 35 in a swift 2hrs 1min. Her time made her 110th overall out of 560 runners.

Fellow Strider Matt Billis crossed the line in an excellent 1hr 55mins for 74th place.

Also in action on Sunday was club chairman Nigel Coates, who ran the Folksworth 15 in an incredible 1hr 42 mins, finishing in 52nd place overall. He was the fourth male over 50 to finish.

Meanwhile Steve White, Gavin Long and Paul Burgess continued their mission to seek out the country’s toughest trail races, taking part in the Cold Christmas to Good Easter Marathon in between the Hertfordshire hamlet near Ware and the Essex village.

They were among a select field of 93 runners to finish the 26.2 mile route, with all coming in well under the seven-hour cut off time. White finished an excellent 11th in 4hrs 5mins, Long was 28th in 4hrs 42mins and Burgess finished in 37th with a time of 4hrs 48mins.

New members are always welcome at the Saffron Striders. Meet at the Lord Butler Leisure Centre for a group run every Tuesday at 8pm. Visit saffronstriders.org.uk for more information about the club.
