Archant

The golfing grannies and great grannies of Saffron Walden Golf Club took up their clubs to compete in the annual Grannies Rose Bowl.

A field of 49 played 18 holes of medal play, most choosing to walk the hilly course. In the field, some were participating for the first time, with grandchildren only weeks old.

Others, well into their 80s, competed keenly, talking fondly of their great-grandchildren. Between them, they could claim over 80 grandchildren.

There was some excellent golf as well. The winner, Angela Reed, was delighted to be playing in her first Grannies Rose Bowl. She finished with a nett 70. Marian Balaam was second with a nett 73, and Linda Kelsey third on count back, also with 73.
