THE new season for the Blue Hornets Hockey Club is about to begin on Sunday.

Following the success of the Team GB Olympic hockey teams this summer, the club is expecting an increased interest in children wishing to take part in club hockey.

Chloe Rogers, GB bronze medallist, was a former member of Dunmow Hockey club - now renamed as Blue Hornets - in her youth and this has helped inspire many a young Blue Hornets player.

Blue Hornets, the junior club to Phoenix Hockey Club, is one of the largest and most successful youth clubs for hockey in Essex, with teams at U8, U10, U12 and U14 levels. Sunday training takes place on the astro turf pitches at Felsted School, with matches played at various locations across the region. The U8 boys are currently Alliance League Champions, U12 Boys Essex champions and U10 Boys Essex and east regional champions.

A spokesman said: “The club is proud to offer excellent facilities from our training ground at Felsted School, qualified coaches, volunteers and parent helpers, two coaches per age-group, maximum of 25 children per group, dedicated goal-keeper coaching, opportunities and support to advance in county, regional and national squads.

“Our dedicated qualified coaching team look forward to welcoming new and returning boys and girls with opportunities to train weekly and take part in tournaments monthly.

“In addition there is also a vibrant social scene with children taking part in bowling trips, pizza nights and earlier this year a club outing to the Riverbank Arena within the Olympic Park to see Team GB.”

If you would like to give hockey a go then get in touch. No obligation ‘give it a go’ sessions are running throughout September. Visit the website, bluehornetshc.co.uk, for further information or contact Charlie Fillingham, club manager, by e-mail on fillatmill@btinternet.com.
