A NEW Essex Ambassadors Scheme, which will offer over 400 people who live or work in the county the chance to play a part in hosting the London 2012 Games, has been launched.
Essex will receive visitors from all over the UK and the world during the games next year, and Essex County Council is looking for volunteers to be the ‘face of Essex’ and give a warm welcome to everyone visiting the county.
Key roles for volunteers will be to provide information and guidance, such as transport queries, and support spectators at events leading up to the Games, such as the Olympic Torch Relay.
The council’s cabinet member for the 2012 Games Stephen Castle said: “As a host county for the London 2012 Games, this is our opportunity to showcase the people and places of Essex.
“Essex will quite literally be welcoming the UK and the world to our county and who better to welcome them than the people of Essex. This is a great opportunity for our residents to play their part in the London 2012 Games and represent our county to the world.”
The scheme is open to anyone. To apply visit essexlegacy.org for further information and to download an application form. Application forms will also be available from Dunmow Library.
