Tom Westley scored 32 in a losing effort against the Netherlands.

NETHERLANDS beat Essex by 5 wickets having reached their target in the 23rd over after being set 113 to win from a maximum of 36 overs.

It was the fourth win of the season for the Dutch side in the CB40 competition and their second in 24 hours having beaten Lancashire by one wicket at the same Rotterdam venue on Monday.

The hosts had the Eagles on the back foot from the first ball of the match when Mark Pettini was caught behind to start a disappointing overall performance.

Tom Westley (32) became the seventh wicket to fall while Graham Napier (28) and Tim Phillips (17) posted 45 for the eighth wicket.

The Essex total of 112 all out proved to pose little problem to the Netherlands side despite the loss of opener Stephen Myburgh to Napier with the score on five when Owais Shah picked up the first of his three slip catches.

Partnerships of 42 and 23 followed, both ended by Phillips who had Tom Cooper caught for 22 before he beat Michael Swart with turn.

Greg Smith had Cameron Borgas (10) caught by Foster to leave the scoreboard showing 80-4 but Mudassar Bukhari and Wes Barresi took the home side to within one run of victory before Phillips struck again dismissing Bukhari (16)

The winning run came from a wide sent down by Napier to seal defeat for the Eagles who have now just one point from their four matches in the competition.
