A FIGHTER added another world title to his impressive collection of belts at Saffron Walden K1 Tri-Style Promotions inaugural event in Hatfield last week.
Lee Coville won the 60kg Pro World K-1 title – taking his collection of championship belts to three – with a stoppage against his Italian opponent, Daniel Saporito.
Saporito tried to take the fight to Coville which proved to be his downfall. The Saffron Walden fighter backed his opponent onto the ropes and unleashed a flurry of punches to the body before a fight-stopping kick to the head.
In the other main event, Ed Crace-Eales earned the rights to wear the Amateur European 91kg K-1 belt by knocking out his French opponent with a series of crushing knee blows.
Three rounds of frenetic fighting, in which Crace-Eales delivered three crushing knee blows to his opponents chin, gave way to a fourth in which another knee to the face put Leny Ferriea-Leal from Paris on the canvas, forcing the referee to stop the fight.
In the other fights, Brett Healy’s technical ability overcame his French opponent, Alexandra Veria as a submission forced his opponent to give up.
Jesse Bernard earned a unanimous judges’ decision win over Aaron Moffat by repeatedly taking his opponent to the mat in a back and forth bout.
Mike Brunt beat Gavin Gilbert won on points thanks to a series of punches to his opponent’s chin.
Brian Laying also scored a unanimous decision over opponent Tom Cummings in an amateur K-1 bout. Cummings had the superior reach but Laying managed to slip under his opponent’s jab and land some heavy body shots.
Trent Gainey managed to force James De Vries to quit after his opponent left his arm exposed after an attempted sweep.
In the first fight of the night between Mike Yiannakou from Tri-Style MMA and his opponent Jordan Wearing, both fighters came out strong and aggressive. Wearing unloaded with a series of jabs which he followed up with a crushing left knee to Yiannakou’s chin resulting in a first round knock out.
Dan Healy, founder and chief instructor at Tri-Style MMA, said: “The production was equally as impressive as the fights – an intimate combat sports event which included title fights, grand entrances from the fighters, a performance from MC Fizzy, a bevy of ring card girls and two over-head screens, which meant you could view the action clearly from anywhere inside the Forum at all times.”
