Saffron Walden’s Tom Blomqvist experienced more problems in Holland at the weekend.

The 23-year-old travelled to Zandvoort hoping to put his struggles behind him, after impressive displays in the previous two rounds of the BMW DTM Series.

And he showed good pace in practice and qualified in seventh place, only to then be dogged by mechanical issues in race one, which forced him to retire on safety grounds.

The TPS-sponsored driver lined up in 12th place for the second race of the weekend, but a spin on the formation lap saw him take an escape road to catch up with the pack and lose a door.

Forced to start from the pitlane, he later received a drive-through penalty and took his BMW around for 13th place.

He said: “I lost control during the formation lap and hit something, that caused the driver’s door to come loose. It was a race to forget.”

The next round is at the Nurburgring (September 8).
