If you’re artistically minded, looking for new subjects to draw, and would like to meet like-minded people for lively conversation, then Saffron Walden Museum is the place for you.

Since last October, on the second Saturday of every month, the museum has opened its doors to members of the Museum Art Group.

They meet and explore the unusual and unique artefacts on display, from Egyptian sarcophagi and Victorian costumes, to wooden carvings and Wallace the stuffed lion.

Membership of the group is free, as is parking, and the only cost is a £5 season ticket which will allow you to visit the museum whenever it’s open throughout the year to take in their many special exhibits and events. Chairs are provided, as well as coffee and biscuits.

Gemma Tully, visitor and learning services officer at Saffron Walden Museum, said: “We are happy to welcome the Museum Art Group to cast a creative eye over some of our exhibits, and draw some attention to them. All you need to bring are drawing materials and some artistic flair (or at least enthusiasm).”

The next two art group meetings are on Saturday (February 8) and Saturday, March 8, from 10.30am until 12.30pm. If you’re interested in joining the group, meet them at the museum entrance.
