Archant

The skirl of bagpipes echoed around Thaxted last Friday during a Burns Night Supper.

Hosted at Parrishes Restaurant and Wine Bar, last Friday’s supper was organised by Debden branch of the Royal British Legion as a fund-raising event.

Forty-three members and their guests were greeted by Lieutenant Colonel Jackie Allen playing a selection of well-known tunes and marches on the pipes.

After the first course they watched as the haggis was piped in, carried by chef Jill Gordon and “addressed” in the traditional manner by Alan Mawer, who subsequently proposed the mandatory toast to the “immortal memory” of Robbie Burns.

Following supper, various individuals volunteered to provide further entertainment by attempting to read a selection of Burns’ poems.

The staff at Parrishes were all dressed in kilts for the evening, and all funds raised will be donated to the Royal British Legion.
