Talented musicians from 10 primary schools spent a day making music at a special workshop in Safron Walden and the results were very impressive.

More than 20 children took part in the Able and Talented Musicians’ Day, which was run by Dame Bradbury’s music leader Bryn Jones, along with violin teacher Janet McCallum.

The children, from Chrishall, Dame Bradbury’s, Felsted, Friends’, Great Chesterford, Howe Green House, Katherine Semar, RA Butler and St Thomas More, were mostly of grade three standard or above and brought their diverse range of instruments with them.

At the end, pupils performed the three orchestral pieces they had learned – variations on a theme of Purcell, Pirates of the Caribbean and the James Bond theme – in a concert for their families.

Mr Jones said: “The day was very successful and all the children seemed to enjoy themselves, as did the parents who came to watch the performance.

“Some children played a variety of percussion instruments to compliment the strings, woodwind and brass and the result was a full orchestral mix.

“I was very impressed with how well the children got on together during the day and they certainly seemed to benefit from working with other talented musicians.”
