The streets of Uttlesford were adorned with more than 100 morris dancers at the weekend, as residents celebrated their annual visit to the town.

Dancers from across the country gathered on Friday night in anticipation of the performances, along with one troupe having travelled all the way from Silkeborg in Denmark.

Ahead of their evening dance, the groups were given a tour of Saffron Walden and delighted passers-by with the sound of bells as men danced outside the King’s Arms.

For the main event in Thaxted, the troupes lined up for a procession through the town followed by a mass display watched by more than 1,000 people – a spectacle which also included a longsword performance.

Visitors enjoyed another mass display later that evening which ended with a performance of the Abbots Bromley Horn Dance, before another procession and church service on Sunday.
