Matthew Robinson scored one of the highest grades in the country and is one of only six students to receive the prestigious Royal Geographical Society’s Excellence Award.

The former Bishop’s Stortford College student gained 100 per cent in all four modules in the subject.

Dr Peter O’Connor, head of geography at the college, said: “While at the college, Matthew showed an outstanding talent for Geography. Most impressive was his ability to recognise the complex interrelationships between human and physical processes and apply his understanding to address real world problems.

“He frequently spoke in class offering critical evaluation of policies surrounding, sustainability, global warming, poverty and inequality.

“As well as his academic brilliance, Matthew was a student of maturity with a personality that went out of his way to help others. He truly deserves this prestigious award from the RGS.”

In his A Level exams, Matthew achieved 5 A*s in Geography, French, German, English and Biology. He is now reading French and German at Somerville College, Oxford.
