A teacher who has taught at primary, secondary, further eduction and adult level and then became an Ofsted inspector and is currently an advisor for schools in East Anglia had been awarded an MBE for services to education.

Maggie Hollingsworth, 71, says she has retired four times.

Mrs Hollingsworth, who has lived in Elmdon, Newport and Thaxted, but now lives in London, qualified as a teacher in 1969. She taught in schools in Harlow, Bishop’s Stortford and Haverhill before becoming an Ofsted Inspector in 1988 and was in post for 20 years as well as becoming a trustee of the educational body in East Anglia, the Inspiration Trust.

She said: “I worked in a small team who helped schools improve themselves. My passion has been to make sure that disadvantaged students and children get the best deal possible.” She is still working though planning to cut down because she and her husband of 48 years, Michael, enjoy travelling.
