A man in his 60s was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge after a colision on the Bardfield Road between Finchingfield and Great Bardfield today (Tuesday, January 16) around noon.

The man was taken to hospital by road ambulance. The accident was outside The Haven, near Finchingfield.

Two other people suffered minor injuries and but not need hospital treatment.

The police and the fire service all attended.

Police closed the road between the two villages and cars approaching the site of the collision were obliged to turn round. “A nasty accident” was reported on social media with reports that the emergency services were in attendance and a warning that the road was closed to traffic.

An Essex County Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Firefighters from Braintree and Dunmow were called to the scene of a road traffic collision at 11.59am today (Tuesday 16 January) in Bardfield Road, Finchingfield.

“On arrival, fire crews reported that one person was receiving medical assistance from paramedics following a collision. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.

“Firefighters ensured the vehicle and area was safe before leaving the scene in the hands of the police.”

The cause of the accident is being investigated. Witnesses should call police on 101.
