More than a dozen train services between London and Stansted Airport and Cambridge were cancelled this morning.

Train operator Greater Anglia said a track defect at Hackney Downs caused by a “set of points out of use” blocked some lines heading towards London Liverpool Street.

Disruption was expected to last until the end of the day, but Greater Anglia announced on Twitter at about 12.15pm that the lines had reopened.

A Greater Anglia spokesman had earlier said this morning: “A set of points is out of use at Hackney Downs due to a track defect as a result one of the two Liverpool Street bound lines is closed between Hackney Downs and Bethnal Green.

“Greater Anglia and Stansted Express services between Cambridge, Stansted Airport and Liverpool Street in both directions will need to be revised during the morning and evening peaks to accommodate the reduced capacity caused by only one Liverpool Street bound line being available between Hackney Downs and Bethnal Green.

“Greater Anglia and Network Rail are sorry if your journey has been affected by this disruption.”
