Forecasters are warning residents to expect more snow throughout today (Tuesday) as a slow-moving weather system makes its way across the region.

A yellow weather warning issued on Monday remains in place across the East of England until midnight, with “longer periods of snow” and freezing temperatures expected.

A spokesman for the Met Office said: “Snow showers or longer periods of snow are expected on Tuesday, accompanied by very low temperatures. There is the potential for travel delays on roads, with some stranded vehicles and passengers, as well as delays or cancellations to rail and air travel.

“Some rural communities could become cut off. Power cuts may also occur and other services, such as mobile phones, may be affected.”

The spokesman said that up to 2cm of snowfall was likely, with 5-10cm of snow in places.

An amber warning for snow has issued to cover parts of Essex and Suffolk likely to be hit by more persistent and heavier snowfall. The Met Office says there may be localised accumulations of up to 15cm, though some parts may escape with lighter dustings.
