The town council has been given the saplings by the Woodland Trust after applying for a grant. Cllr Trudi Hughes, chairman of Downs & Commons Committee, is now asking for volunteers to help plant them on Saturday morning. The group will be meeting at the Church End gate, on the Recreation Ground, at 9.30am.

People need to dress appropriately and bring their own spade and gardening gloves.

Cllr Hughes said: “We were so pleased to be given the trees. This is a really great project and by having more trees we may increase the amount of wildlife we get in the area.”

The council is responsible for over 100 acres of land, most of which is accessible to the public.
