A reverse advent calendar was a mighty success this December with the Great Dunmow Rotary Club.

Instead of eating something every day, the members donated one item to Uttlesford Foodbank each day, and on Wednesday (December 28) almost 250kg of food was delivered to the Community Hub collection point.

It was suggested by President Elect Mike Lodder. David Beedle, a member of the rotary club, said it had “been a fantastic success”.

About their goal, the foodbank said: “We don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. That’s why we provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to us in crisis.

“We are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.”

The Trussel Trust is a charity which connects a network of foodbanks around the country, trying to stop the cycle of poverty.
