Song, art and dance were all used to bring legends such as Robin Hood and Pegasus to life at Great Dunmow Primary School.

Pupils of all ages joined in on the fun as part of their Creative Arts Festival.

They got to enjoy a range of activities including dressing up as characters from fairytales and legends, which was the theme for the event.

Each class also made their own wall hanging using lots of different materials. One class managed to create the Welsh dragon using mosaic.

Great Dunmow’s mayor and mayoress, Phil and June Milne, presented prizes to winners of an art competition held earlier in the week.

Cllr Milne said: “There were some excellent ideas and it got the whole school together.

“It was lovely to come here and we had a great time.”

The week was organised to promote all the arts that take place at the school. The youngsters got to see demonstrations from professional theatre groups, African drummers and secondary pupils from Helena Romanes who came into to show them the instruments of the orchestra.

Great Dunmow Primary School’s own drama group performed Hoodwinked, a version of Robin Hood.

Drama coordinator Helen Andrews said: “It has been really busy and very enjoyable. The children have got so much out of it. Everybody has got involved which is really great to see.”
