Funeral firm Daniel Robinson & Sons celebrates 125 years of service to the community

This year Daniel Robinson & Sons is celebrating 125 years’ service to the community.
The business was founded in 1892 by Daniel Robinson.
Daniel was a particularly able and far-sighted businessman, who within a relatively short time had bought a brickyard and land, followed by a builder’s yard.
Timber was readily available on his farmland and he built a saw mill to use the timber in building local properties and for producing coffins.
The business grew and developed and in the late 1980s it was evident that Great Dunmow would benefit from a funeral home with the full services of a funeral director and monumental mason in purpose-built premises.
Currently the company – which has nine offices – is led by managing director Gary Neill, who is proud of leading this family business.
He said: “This year we continue to review and improve everything we do, keeping our facilities and vehicles as up-to-date as possible to ensure the best level of service we can for the families we serve.
“I am very proud of our company and of our achievements, my team and I look forward to continuing our ‘tradition of care’ into the future.”
Looking to that future, Daniel Robinsobn & Sons continues to encourage families to protect against the rising costs of funerals.
While the average cost of a funeral in 2004 was £1,920, today in the UK it is £4,078 – an increase of 110% – according to the Sunlife cost of dying report 2017.
The main reason for this is the rise in third party costs, which the funeral director has no control over.

The independent firm also encourages people to male an Independent Way Plan, bespoke to your exact request – the cost can then be managed and the local knowledge of their staff will ensure your wishes are fully understood and adhered to.
The company also warns people to beware of cold callers and funeral plan salesmen, and recommends people buy a plan from a funeral director as they are the professionals and will provide the service when the plan is needed.
