Part of the M11 was closed yesterday as a result of a car fire on the northbound carriageway.

An Essex County Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Firefighters from Stansted, Newport, Saffron Walden and Harlow were called to reports of a car fire on the M11 at 3.52pm yesterday (Tuesday 10 April).

“Crews reported on arrival that a car was completely alight on the northbound side of the road, between junctions 8 and junctions 9.

“Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire completely by 4.16pm and worked with the Highways Agency to ensure the road was re-opened once the scene was safe.”

On Twitter, Stansted Fire Station said: “Yesterday just before 4pm we were sent to a car on fire on the M11 between junctions 8 and 9.

“Wearing breathing apparatus two firefighters using two hosereel jets quickly extinguished the blaze.”

Highways England and Essex Police also attended the scene.
