Essex: 85% of parents get preferred choice of secondary school for their children

Parents of pupils due to start secondary school in September 2014 today (Monday, March 3) received notification of the outcome of their secondary school application.
More than 14,000 parents will receive notification by letter, with those who applied online (more than 90per cent of parents) receiving confirmation by e-mail.
A total of 85.27 per cent of parents have been offered their first preference, with 7.78pc getting their second preference. This means that 93.05pc of pupils have been offered their first or second preference.
Cabinet member for education and lifelong learning, Cllr Ray Gooding, said: “It is promising to see that 93.05% of parents have been offered their first or second preference.
“We have some fantastic secondary schools in Essex and we will continue to work closely with them to strive to provide young people with a world class education system. I would like to wish all pupils and parents every success in their new chapter of learning.”
Essex County Council received a total of 14,451 applications for secondary school places with 13,105 now applying online.
