Station House on Sycamore Close has been refurbished by the parish council and reopened last Thursday as Takeley Community Café, selling tea and locally sourced cakes.

The old train station, which closed in 1966, has been re-carpeted, a kitchen has been fitted and the old platform has been cleaned up allowing residents to enjoy a cup of tea outside – all the makings of a successful café.

Cllr Pat Burnett, who spearheaded the community café, said it “fills a need” in the village.

It will be open on Thursdays from noon to 4pm and Fridays from 9am to 12.30pm.
