The Braintree man, who does not want to be identified, was selling his car online through Gumtree.

He was contacted by a man and a woman who met him at his home address for a test drive.

The male suspect, who was driving, pulled into a lay-by at Great Leighs race track and pointed a gun at the victim, telling him to get out of the car.

The pair then sped off, at around 8pm on March 25, leaving the victim very shaken.

Police recovered the high-value car intact nine hours later in Benfleet.

Efits of the man and woman have been issued by Essex Police.

The man is described as just under 6ft tall, in his 30s, of stocky build and with a London accent.

The woman was 5ft 5ins, in her late 20s, and of slim build.

It is thought a third person may have been hidden in the car the suspects arrived in to drive it away.

The victim said: “I would warn anyone who is considering taking a stranger on a test drive to make sure that they get a copy of their driving licence, check their insurance documents and make a note of the registration number of the vehicle they arrive in.”
