Three Felsted School pupils are celebrating securing places at two of the most prestigious universities in the world following an “excellent” set of A-level results.
Eliz Peck, Dan Benson and Hugh Evans, all 18, will be heading to Oxbridge for the new term after they found out their results today (Thursday). Eliz, from Black Notley, gained three A*s and has met her offer to read history at Trinity Hall, Cambridge.
Dan, from Danbury, secured two A*s and an A to read physics at St. Catherine’s College, Oxford and Hugh, from Wickhambrook, achieved one A* and two As and will read classical archaeology and ancient history at Balliol, Oxford.
Eliz said: “I am particularly grateful to two Felsted teachers, Mr Rakesh Pathak and Mr Charles Allen for their amazing support and guidance in history and my Cambridge application.”
Overall 98 students took A-levels at Felsted this year and of them, 10 per cent achieved A* grades, 33 per cent achieved A*s and As, 60 per cent A*s to Bs, 78 per cent A* to Cs and 99 per cent A*s to Es.
Other high achievers included Head Girl, Lydia Carrington, 18, from High Easter, who not only met the Queen this year, but achieved an A* and 2 As, as did George Bentley, Camille Brien, James Taylor and Matthew Poulton. Georgia Long and James Padfield impressed with 2 A*s and an A while Isabelle Candy achieved straight A grades.
Headmaster Dr Mike Walker said: “I am delighted at the excellent performance of so many of our students which, in an exceptional year celebrating the 450th Anniversary of the Foundation of our School, shows their ability to work hard and balance academic rigour with many other demands.
“They have represented Felsted superbly at major public occasions, with great pride and exemplary turnout and behaviour, but they have also demonstrated the capacity to sustain over 60% A* to B grades overall, at a time when A Levels are even more demanding and the government is forecasting a drop in the top grades.
“It is a terrific team effort by staff and students working closely together, and our students deserve many congratulations for all they have achieved.”
