Greater Anglia has increased the number of Stansted Express services in their new timetable, which came into effect on Sunday (December 10).

The timetable has reintroduced an all-day, four trains per hour Stansted Express service, seven days a week, as it continues to increase train services due to recovering customer demand after the pandemic.

After introducing the four-trains-per-hour Stansted Express service during weekday peak times in May this year, airport passenger numbers have continued to increase, so the frequency has been restored during off peak periods and weekends.

On Mondays to Saturdays, the trains will depart from London Liverpool Street at 3.40am, 4.10am, 4.40am, 5.10am and then every 15 minutes until 10.55pm, then at 11.25pm.

The trains will depart from Stansted Airport at 5.30am, 6am and then every 15 minutes until 11.59pm, then at 12.30am.

On Sundays, the trains will depart from London Liverpool Street at 4.10am, 4.40am, 5.10am, 5.40am, 6.10am, then every 15 minutes to 10.55pm, then at 11.25pm.

Trains will depart from Stansted Airport at 5.30am, 6am, 6.30am and 7pm, then every 15 minutes to 11.59pm, then at 12.30am.

Due to new trains, journey times are expected to be slightly quicker, average 48 minutes - with most off peak services scheduled for 47 minutes.

Jamie Burles, managing director at Greater Anglia said: "We are pleased to be providing four trains per hour to Stansted Airport all day, seven days a week again, from the timetable change on Sunday, benefitting air travellers and commuters alike, as well as introducing some other peak time improvements reflecting increases in passenger numbers.

"With new trains right across our network, we are transforming rail travel in our region, offering an excellent travel experience, more seats, and a more punctual and reliable service.

Gareth Powell, managing director at Stansted Airport, said: "London Stansted has been the fastest recovering major UK airport with passenger numbers exceeding pre-pandemic levels for the last few months.

"We therefore welcome the reintroduction of the full four trains per hour schedule, as it's a vital service for the millions of passengers who rely on a convenient and reliable service between London and the airport each year.

"A regular, turn-up-and-go service will not only encourage more passengers back onto trains and out of private cars to enable the most sustainable growth possible at the airport, and cement our position as the number one airport in the UK for public transport use by passengers, but it will also support our on-going work to attract more airlines looking to access the UK and London aviation market.

"This is really positive news for passengers, staff and local commuters."
