A short film is being shot at Talliston House and Gardens in Great Dunmow this summer, and the creators are calling for support.

The Stranger's Guide to Talliston is a young adult fantasy adventure novel by John Tarrow, and is set at the property - dubbed 'Britain's most extraordinary home'.

Talliston House and Gardens is a former council house at Talliston Newton Green, which John, under his other name 'John Trevillian', transformed into a miniature palace.

To celebrate the book's first edition selling out, a short live action fantasy film based on the novel will be filmed at the house, with child actor Noah Conroy.

The short film will showcase the house's 13 extraordinary rooms and adapt the opening scenes of the novel, with Noah playing the main character Joe.

Talliston House is looking for 50 people to be 'gold star' backers and make a one-off donation of £50 to support the hiring, filming and post-production work on the film.

Each of the backers will receive a personalised reward package, which includes their name displayed in the credits of the film as a supporter of the project, a numbered certificate personally signed by filmmaker Scott Godding and writer John Tarrow.

Backers will be invited to a private screening party of the completed film, with virtual options for those unable to attend in person.

They will also receive a gift voucher worth £15 to spend on anything Talliston-related, including shop items, experiences and the bookshop.

A spokesperson for the house and gardens said: "The Film Fifty will not only provide us the ability to make this film as true to our vision as possible, but also allow backers to get involved in the process."

John Tarrow was born John Tode in 1965, and adopted the surname 'Trevillian' for his work transforming the house, before later adopting the name 'Tarrow' for his literary work.

Filmmaker Scott Godding is a photographer and director currently based out of Birmingham and Norwich.

The Stranger's Guide to Talliston will finish shooting at the end of July or in early August, and will be released in autumn 2023.
