FINCHINGFIELD CofE School pupils have taken part in a sponsored walk in memory of one of their most popular members of staff.

Teaching assistant Jean Bradley died of cancer in March, at the age of 57, after being with the school for 14 years.

In her memory, the school organized a sponsored walk for pupils at Great Notley Country Park near Braintree.

All money raised is going to Farleigh Hospice.

The school’s PTA has also offered to install a new piece of play equipment on the playground in her memory.

Headteacher Paula Hagan said: “Mrs Bradley was a member of staff who was loved and respected in equal measure by staff, pupils and parents alike. We wanted to do something that would not only be an appropriate way of remembering her, but also raise money for other people living with this terrible disease.”

Starting from the Discovery Centre on the site, pupils aged between five and seven, the pupils walked a distance of two miles. Those aged between eight and 11 walked four miles.

“The new equipment in the playground will be a daily reminder of the wonderful times Mrs Bradley shared with us, the very real affection which we all had for her, and the high esteem in which she was held.

“By raising money for Farleigh Hospice, we know that the lives of those living with cancer will be made more bearable and rewarding too.”

At any one time Farleigh Hospice is providing care to around 1100 local people affected by life limiting illnesses, whilst also supporting their families and carers.
