Recycled Christmas trees could be turned into good quality compost or soil conditioner now it is the end of the festive season.

Skips and bins for old trees have been put around Uttlesford by the District Council to encourage residents to throw away the pine wood in a more environmentally friendly way.

Although the council have reminded people to take off decorations and lights before chucking the tree.

The collection points will be open January 7 and 8, or, the Recycling Centre for Household Waste in Thaxted Road, Saffron Walden, is open every day from 9am till 4pm. Except New Year’s eve when it is open 9am till 1pm, and New Year’s day when it is closed.

On Saturday January 7 the bins will be available:
